Event Reminder: BIRDS OF THE NEW ENGLAND SWAMP -by Peter Christoph

This Wednesday we’ll be at the Greater Bridgeport Camera Club for a special program:
BIRDS OF THE NEW ENGLAND SWAMP -by Peter Christoph

BIRDS OF THE NEW ENGLAND SWAMP – Wildlife photographer Peter Christoph presents a narrated slideshow, sharing both his award-winning images and his photographic secrets as he brings you inside a typical New England swamp. Peter provides an intimate look into the many varieties of birds that inhabit our swamps, including ospreys and herons, shorebirds, woodpeckers, and other cavity dwellers. Sloshing and crawling through the swamp so you don’t have to, Peter captures the bird’s many activities including building the nest, feeding their young, and catching their prey. You’ll almost want to bring your own wading boots and bug spray for protection as you sit down to watch this captivating presentation.

MCC Podcast of the Week (2/24/17)

Episode of the Week
This week’s episode comes from PhotoFocus and it is part of their Inspiration Show series:
February 14, 2017
The Inspiration Show | Photofocus Podcast February 14, 2017

Hosted by Scott Bourne and Marco Larousse the Inspiration Podcast at PhotoFocus is a wonderful podcast between two photographers who’s niches are quite contrasting but this helps provide great perspectives on the topics they discuss.  Here is their show description:

About this show:

On the monthly #Inspiration episode of the Photofocus podcast, Scott and Marco will discuss the art, history and motivation in photography that often gets lost in today’s media rich world. Slow down, look closer and put more intent into photography to increase your creativity and final results. And simply spread the pure love of photography.

What made this episode great is that it touched on the last podcast I recommended offering more examples on  the importance of printing your work.  I think the line was, “It’s not a photograph until it’s a print” and I couldn’t agree more.

I also enjoyed them going back and forth on bokeh and what they called, “The religion of shallow depth of field”.  In their discussion they offer some great examples of when and when not to use the shallow depth of field.

Also be sure to check out their selection for Inspirational Photographer of the Month as well as their pic for Book of the Month.

In addition to listening on the PhotoFocus website you can find them on iTunes or here on SOUNDCLOUD where you can also view the show notes:

Meredith Images Presents: Creative Photography Conference

Meredith Images Presents: Creative Photography Conference

So what are you all doing May 20th and 21st?  I would double check your plans because one of our good friends from the Greater Bridgeport Camera Club is hosting a wonderful photography conference.  You all know Hazel Meredith.  Aside from judging many of our competitions she’s also done several programs for us ranging from texture overlays to plugins and even Adobe Lightroom.  Maybe some of you have seen her in Amherst at the NECCC Conference where she also has done many programs. But if you haven’t had the pleasure of attending one of her programs don’t worry because those of us that have will attest to the fact that they are fantastic and this is great opportunity to see her speak.

And as if this wasn’t enough to get you excited, check out the speakers she’s bringing along with her…

PRINTING WITH MARTIN BAILEY – ITL 06
https://thisweekinphoto.com/printing-martin-bailey-itl-06/

I found this to a be a fascinating discussion between Don Komarechka and his guest, Martin Bailey.  This certainly is not aimed at the first-time printing crowd as they’re using some high-end printers but it is chock full of inspiration and some tips that can be applied at any level.  The underlying emphasis on this podcast is … PRINT!  We are certainly missing a major aspect of photography if all we’re going to do is leave our pictures on our PC’s and Phones.

Cosplay and Steampunk shoot this Wednesday!

Please join us this Wednesday for the MCC Cosplay and Steampunk shoot.  All you need to bring is yourself and your camera … We’ll have everything else you need to get some great pictures.  Fellow members Rich C, Will and Josh will be setting up various setups that include lights, remotes and backdrops.

Check back later as we’ll put up a gallery for everyone to enjoy.
Be sure to see Wil before you leave as he’ll be collecting some pictures for the participants that they can bring home with them.

Here are a few shots from our last Cosplay shoot a couple years ago:
